Micah P Hinson - And The Red Empire Orchestra

Micah P. Hinson. Just another notch to the already bulging belt of alternative music to come from Austin Texas. With a voice as deep and booming as Johnny Cash he has a lot to live up to. In his fourth instalment Hinson teams up with the Red Light Orchestra shedding new light on his usual dark and gloomy, reverberated acoustic ballads. The highlights coming from track 2 'Tell Me It Ain't So'
in which the track is built up very subtly until the chorus with his heart rendering refrain of 'constantly craving what isn't mine.' Live the thought of a gloomy acoustic guy would be enough to put a lot of people off but his songs are rearranged and his backing band make the songs energetic and so interesting you can hardly take your eyes off the stage. Micah P. Hinson is a name to remember as I get the feeling he has a lot more to offer.

Russell Scruff

This is the 3rd of 3 records from Mr.Scruff and Ninja Tune. Jazz's finest voice Alice Russel joins him on 'Music Takes Me Up' a piano melody that will be sure to be stuck in your head.

Ninja tunes also do this brilliant idea where if you buy the record you'll get a code to redeem free mp3s of the tracks via their web site!

Justice are Rocking Out!

Bit late on this but it's some new Justice so got to post it. This is the mix that Justice made for Dior Homme. You can download the mix or you can just stream the mixes from Justice's myspace. In the mix you can hear a more experimental sound and it featuers a guitar solo! ROCK!

Interactivity

Did some hunting for some nice interactive sites...

First off a load of sites by this greek artist dude; Angelo Plessas
Really simple stuff but cool for the 30 seconds you spend on them:

Then we have www.yugop.com, these guys are from merry old japan and damn do they know there stuff. Considering these sites were made in 2002+, it makes me wonder how the west has pretty much not even attempted to even try and do something like this!?!
First you have there actual home page with some cool little moving blobs and the such, hunt around the achieve for way more as well:

Then you have this, what seems like a cool idea to me. Its like a kind of enhanced podcasting site. All entries are provided by text and voice-sound data, which are played with synchronized motion. Posted sound data is analyzed in the server and it's volume history is visualized to Avatar's motion. Users can throw their comments on each entry, then computer voice is generated on server-side text-to-speech system. Its all in Japaneese which is a bit anoying, but why has this not been brought over?

This I think is great, they have developed a typographic book search application called "amaztype". Where you can make your own typography with amazon search results
its pretty damn cool, obviously the top searches being sex fuck & jenna jameson:

Vons Migration

Von has got to be one of the best illustrators around right now. His use of lines and shading is just impeccable, this is part of his new exhibition:

Migration.
An exhibition in two parts

Migration will take place in two parts, in two major cities in two months. A flock of abstracted birds will first be installed on the Truman Brewery, London in late August. In September the birds will reappear in New York flocking towards the billboard on the side of the Espeis Gallery in Williamsburg - the project inheriting the migrational nature of its content.

The first half of the project can now be seen on a billboard at The Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, London.
The second billboard will go up in at the Espeis Gallery in New York next week.

Both original artwork and prints are available for purchase from the Migration site.

Middle Boop at the Proms

One of the many Proms that caught my eye this year was the Oslo Philharmonic
not only playing mr Rachmaniov's 3rd piano concerto but also the first symphony of Sielius. It was a full house at the Royal Albert and deservedly so as they sounded amazing. Nikolai Lugansky, who played piano throughout the 3rd concerto was hugely talented I don't think he actually missed a note. Sibelius was the highlight, with the sound building up to extreme levels and crashing down with full force. There are still a few weeks left of the Proms and this one was definately a highlight.

I spent 00.36.00 of my life staring at this last night!

I spent 00.36.00 of my life staring at this last night! Its just a screensaver but using heavy Helvetica numbers dropping into water to form a clock, just about the most entertaining thing ever!
Its a bit of a beast of a file but worth it for procrastintation: http://scr.sc/products/dropclock/

It began in africaaaaaaaaaaaa

Billed as South Africa's answer to Baile Funk, Kwaito meshes the syncopated sound of House music with local rhythms, this time with an African tribal slant. You'll probably soon be hearing him all over the adverts so much so that Warp Records are jumping headfirst on to the Kwaito bandwagon by releasing a record by J Burg's DJ Mujava.

mouthing metallica

So i saw metallica 2003 reading and they were pretty tame compared to this one which sux for me but i did get to watch them in the luxurary of my arm chair this time around
which was nice
but one thing i did noitice is how many of the little bastards were trying to sing along to most of the songs without knowing the bloody lyrics!

blue nude

Same guy who did the cut chemist video, but this one is definatley more suited to the music.
Kyle Ruddick and Cari Ann Shim Sham's video for ambient Ohio band, Low in the Sky's "Are You for Real" is a much better music video then his more recents ventures(cut chemist). The use of colour(or non-use), minimal dance, and effects work much better with the Low in the Sky's music.

Control

This film is a benchmark in British cinema. Its one of the only indie films I have been able to talk about with people who don't know or care about cinema or Joy Division. When I found out it was shot in black and white I thought "here's another cliche wannabe film to add to the genre." but it really sets the scene of a gloomy working class town in the 70's. Shot by Anton Corbijn, the man behind a few of thier original videos as well as a huge variety of films, music videos, album designs and even logos. The man is creatively a legend and this film adds to his already astounding resume.

It Never ENDS!

360 turn-tablest!

Apparently this is the first music video to use this new 360 degree panoramic lens. Not the greatest video ever I'm afraid and not the greatest song either, you know Cut Chemist is usually capable of better! But this technology is gonna get massive, think the new apple advert with loads of dancers or daft punk reworking 'around the world' with this!

Might start doing this to speed cameras!

Check this guy out, he's a lot of fun:

Shoreditch Vampires

I say Ooh La La say soom
I say Ooh La La say soom
I say Ooh La La say soom
Did you ever here that track? You know the one by the Wiseguys a nineties classic! Well one of the mateys from them and another from the band Simian have got together in Shoreditch to take over this combination of electo-indie, and its
Pretty
Pretty
Good

Black Ghosts have produced a mixtape giving a insight into their own tracks – where lead vocals; Simon Lord (Justice vocals fame) sounds a good part indie – and their remixing skills – where DJ Touché (Wiseguys fame) sounds a good part electro scene.
Highlights include ‘Something New’ a emotionally effecting 90s synth track and their re-work of The Gossip’s ‘Listen Up’. But also some good GOOD club beats from the likes of Boy 8-Bit’s ‘Fog Bank’ and ‘Proper Villain’s ‘Trick Baby’ that would even find a suitable home on the Camberley high street circuit! BRAP!
All and all it’s a good inslight into the cross comtamination between indie and club music that has been taking over but with some fun added in for good measure, not to mention their stella artworks:
